Over the last week or so, I’ve had a few conversations that all start the same way…

“Outlook keeps freezing.”
“It’s crashing for no obvious reason.”
“It was fine yesterday!” 😡

In most cases, the reaction is – “Outlook’s broken, or the Windows needs reinstalling.”

But the actual cause is down to a recent Microsoft update.

The update affects PC’s with email accounts configured as POP3, and have OneDrive installed as the Cloud backup.

This combination has triggered Outlook to become unresponsive or to crash entirely in some cases.

The workaround isn’t drastic – It involves reconfiguring the email account from POP3 to IMAP, and then migrate the existing emails to the new setup.

Once that’s done, Outlook will return to its normal self.

If everything has been running smoothly on your computer, it’s a good sign your email is already configured as IMAP or Exchange — and no action is needed.

But, if Outlook has been misbehaving over the last week or so, the update is very likely to be the cause.
