Most things have a shelf life. Some are shorter than others.
In most cases, when something better, quicker, shinier or easier comes along, that’s when people move on.
Take the dumb phones, landlines, pagers and Blackberries for example. Sales for these products have taken a hammering since the launch of the Smartphone.
Or in Blackberries case, once they recognised that it was a losing battle against Apple, they stopped making new handsets altogether in 2022.
By the way – the BlackBerry movie on Netflix is a must see. Even if you’re not into tech. Click here for the trailer.
Anyway, do you remember the floppy disks, VHS and cassette tapes, CD’s, DVD’s, Walkman & MP3 Players, fax and telex machines?
All of these have been replaced by the online and digital equivalent.
And in May of this year, Skype will be another platform consigned to history.
Back in 2011, Microsoft bought Skype for $8.5bn, and at its peak, it boasted 300 million users worldwide.
But with rising competition, this number has dwindled over recent years, and Microsoft made a decision to shift its focus to the Teams app instead.
So if you’re one of the few that’s still using Skype, fear not. As you can use your existing Skype account details to login to Microsoft Teams.
Or you can switch to using Zoom, WhatsApp video or Facetime instead.
